Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
For both private and group instruction, it is necessary and courteous to give at least 24 hours notice to both your instructor and QCM that you will be unable to attend your lesson. For private instruction, when appropriate notice is given, this is classed as an ‘Excused Absence’ and the lesson will be made-up at a mutually convenient time. Students in Private Lesson Plans are entitled to 3 Excused Absences per year. If you are unable to give 24 hours notice of your absence, this is classed as an ‘Unexcused Absence’ and will not be made-up. You should still inform your instructor and QCM that you will be unable to attend your lesson if at all possible. Unexcused Absences without any notice are not acceptable under any circumstances. Please refer to our policy for further information. For group instruction, lessons may not be made-up but homework assignments may be provided at the discretion of the instructor.
No. If you wish to pursue the RCM syllabus in consultation with your private instructor then this is your choice, but it is not mandatory. QCM is not responsible for entering students for RCM examinations.
All student performance opportunities can be found on the Events page. Students and instructors will be reminded of performance dates well ahead of time. Students interested in participating will need to register for an event by fully completing a concert registration form before the posted deadline. Due to the popularity of performance events, late applications will not be accepted. For events with limited capacity (such as Workshops/Master-classes), participation will be on a first registered, first served basis. Group class performance registration is the responsibility of the instructor. Solo performance registration is the responsibility of the performer (or parent/guardian).
