Queen's University

The Yamaha method of music education incorporates weekly group lessons designed to give students the best beginning possible for the development of basic music skills at any age level. Piano Club 2, taught by Barbara Bolte, is a continuation of Piano Club 1 for adult beginners, honing their keyboard and ensemble skills through active music making in a social environment. This 24-week course takes place over the Fall and Winter terms, with an option for extension into a 10-week Spring Term.

The Yamaha system uses solfege for note-learning, which makes the process fun and user-friendly. Successful learning outcomes are based on being able to set aside sufficient time for practice. As new material is covered in every class, regular attendance is encouraged.

Classes will take place on Mondays at 6.45-7.45pm in the Keyboard Lab (Rm 229) of Harrison-LeCaine Hall of Queen’s University, on Bader Lane. The Piano Club runs over the Fall and Winter terms between September, 2019 – April, 2020. The Spring extension runs from April to June 2020.

  • Fall Term: 16th September – 9th December, 2019 (12 weeks) (no class on Monday, 14th October due to Thanksgiving)
  • Winter Term: 6th January – 6th April, 2020 (12 weeks) (no class on Monday 17th February, due to Family Day or Monday, 16th March, due to March Break)

Optional solo performance opportunities will be available at the QCM student recitals in December 2019, February and May 2020.

This course is open to adults. The course will run with a minimum class size of 4 people (please refer to QCM Policy for further details regarding procedure if minimum class size is not achieved).
