Foundations in Tonal Music [MUSC 105]

“Foundations in Tonal Music”

Prereq: MUSC 104

A core requirement for Major, Medial and Minor concentrations in Music, this course increases a student’s fluency and understanding of the rudiments of diatonic music by establishing a basic understanding of harmony and voice-leading in classical and popular music. Additionally, students develop broader skills in musicianship, musical appreciation, and musical creativity by selecting and completing modules in areas such as ear-training, composition, arranging, music analysis, singing in the class choir, small group performances, written reviews of a live concert and/or comparing two different recordings of the same composition. Peer assessment of other students’ work is an important component of the course.
