Since arriving in 1986, Tim has taught a wide range of courses at Queen's including design, directing, theatre administration and musical theatre. He received his PhD. from the University of Toronto's Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama where his doctoral thesis, and much of his subsequent academic writing, examined late nineteenth-century lighting design and staging.

Since the 1970's Tim has been active as a designer, director, and performer in the professional theatre. A member of the Associated Designer's of Canada, he has designed lighting and/or scenery for over 200 productions including the world premieres of And All For Loveat the National Arts Centre and Judith Thompson’s Hothouseat The Isabel Bader Centre.  In the Kingston area, he has directed and designed many productions including Marry Me A LittleGoblin Market andWinter Wonderettesfor Theatre Kingston and Noises Offfor Thousand Islands Playhouse. Beginning in 1973,Tim spent the first of 46 consecutive summers at the Weston Playhouse in Weston, Vermont (serving as a producing director there starting in1988). At Weston he has had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, many top notch Broadway and Regional performers and designers, and he has directed more than 70 productions including West Side Story(in 2018) and the Vermont premieres of Les Misérables, The Other Place, Avenue Q,andSpelling Bee.  For many years Tim also supervised the Playhouse's Young Company training program as well as its after-hours cabaret – both of which he had a fundamental role in creating. 

Currently a Graduate Coordinator for the Dan School’s Arts Management program, Tim previously served as Head of Queen’s Drama from 2001 until 2012 – and he has most recently directed and designed Threepenny Operain Con Hall; and Candide, A Little Night Music, andThe House of Martin Guerrein the Rotunda Theatre.
