Arts Leadership

Ms. Steele knows that the arts help build healthy, vibrant communities.  With over 35 years’ experience managing Canadian arts organizations at both local and national levels, Ms. Steele is now a bilingual arts and non-profit management consultant who also teaches Theatre Management at the University of Ottawa. She is a graduate of the Queen’s School of Business and is completing her CMC certification with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants. She also Treasurer of the Cultural Human Resources Council. 

Recently, Ms. Steele was Executive Director of Arts Network Ottawa, Chair of the Ottawa Cultural Alliance, Co-Chair of the Shenkman Arts Centre Community Leadership Team and Vice-Chair of PAL Ottawa. Previously, Ms. Steele spent 19 years in senior management at Canada’s National Arts Centre, primarily as Managing Director of English Theatre.  Prior to the NAC, she held general management positions with theatres in Toronto, London and Muskoka. 

She has a strong national network, having served on the boards of Canadian Arts Presenters (CAPACOA), Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, Federal Cultural Trade Advisory Board, Association of Cultural Executives and Théâtre la Catapulte.
