MUSC 115/215/315/415 (002)/1.5 Queen’s Orchestra

Director, Wolf Tormann

Queen’s Orchestra is directed by Wolf Tormann and is open to Queen’s University students who play an orchestral instrument after passing a successful audition. String players in particular are encouraged to apply.

Rehearsal times are Fridays from 4:30pm to 7:30pm in the rehearsal hall of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts

One of the annual highlights of the orchestra’s concert season is the performance of the previous year’s Concerto/Aria Competition winner.

This fall, Queen’s Orchestra will be joined by Sirui Chen, concerto/Aria competition winner in 2019, in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations for cello and orchestra. The concert will also feature a piece for strings and Bruckner’s Symphony No.1. The Bruckner Symphony is of epic proportions and will be challenging but enjoyable for strings, winds and brass alike. Parts to this Symphony will be made available very soon, so interested players can start practicing over the summer.

The winter term concert will feature a collaboration with Queen’s Choral Ensemble under the direction of Darrell Christie. The center piece of the concert will be ‘Lux Aeterna’ by Morten Lauridsen.

Audition requirements: Excerpts for each instrument can be found below.

Excerpts to be recorded for the audition will be posted. Students are required to submit a video recording of those excerpts (uninterrupted, no splicing) following the information provided on the Ensemble Auditions webpage.

Prior to submitting the recorded video, students must complete an Online Ensemble Audition Application. Do note that if a student is auditioning for more than one ensemble, they must complete only ONE form but indicate their preference by ranking the ensembles under consideration.  Other factors for placement in an ensemble are contingent upon the number of positions available.

Results will be posted shortly thereafter.

Directed by Wolf Tormann.

Rehearsals will take place in the Isabel Bader Rehearsal Hall.
