MUSC 381/3.0 Topics in Music: Advanced Percussion Techniques
Instructor: Greg Runions
This is a course for people who intend to teach music in some formal setting or have an interest in developing their current foundation in percussion techniques.
Throughout the term students will be actively involved in learning how to play the percussion instruments. Intermediate and advanced techniques for snare drum, mallet instruments (2/3 and 4 mallet performance), timpani and drum-set will be studied. Attention will be given to the accepted conventions used in the notation of specific percussive techniques. Students will also be involved in an examination of several significant advanced works for percussion.
Students will be required to demonstrate some of the techniques studied through class demonstrations or live performances.
