DRAM 251/3.0 BOTH FALL AND WINTER TERM SECTIONS
Introduction to Playwriting
INSTRUCTOR: Richard Sanger
Calendar course description: An introductory course in playwriting and dramaturgy that includes exercises in dramatic techniques and the composition of original works.
The course: This is an introductory workshop in playwriting. We will begin by exploring various key concepts through extracts and writing exercises. In the second half, students will focus on an original script (20-40 pages). Because it is a workshop, participation in the form of responding to the other students’ scripts is essential and will count for a significant part of your final mark.
Note re Remote Delivery: In 2020-21, this course will be taught remotely. This will involve a weekly synchronous Zoom session; script reading, and recording in groups of 2 or 3; a class discussion forum; office hours with the instructor.
