Queen's University

Do you have a music background? Our ensembles are open to all Queen's students!

Hone your collaboration and team-work skills in a music ensemble! The experience of co-creating music is unparalleled in the way it brings joy and stretches your mind. At the DAN School, we offer a range of ensemble experiences to anyone within the Queen’s community with participants including students, faculty and staff members.

Undergraduate students within the Faculty of Arts and Science can enrol in an ensemble for a course credit of 1.5 units upon completing a successful audition. All ensembles are scheduled to run through the Fall and Winter terms and to receive credit, students must participate in both terms. Students may register for credit in a maximum of two ensembles per year.

Below is a list of our current exciting ensemble opportunities.

Medium Ensembles:

Small Ensembles:

Medium and Large ensembles rehearse for three hours per week with small ensembles usually receiving between 1-2 hours of weekly coaching. All ensembles will perform throughout the year as part of the DAN School Ensemble Concert Series.

Please note that rehearsal times and expectations will be adapted during the remote delivery of the 2020 Fall term.

Our ensemble courses are available at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year levels,
so you can continue your artistic progression throughout your time at Queen's. Please note, students will be registered in the ensemble course number to match their year of study.

Auditions:

All ensemble courses require an audition. For the 2020/21 academic year, auditions must be submitted online using a video recording that must be received by Friday, September 4, 2020. This audition is a three-step process:

  1. Students should first check the audition requirements found under each ensemble description.

  2. Students complete an Online Ensemble Audition Application for the ensemble(s) they are interested in joining. If a student is auditioning for more than one ensemble, they must complete only ONE form but indicate their preference by ranking the ensembles under consideration.  Other factors for placement in an ensemble are contingent upon the number of positions available.

  3. Students submit a video recording using Microsoft Stream. Instructions here.

Please note, students are unable to add ensemble courses on SOLUS on their own. Successful students will be added to the ensemble(s) after the audition process is completed by the Dan School Undergraduate Program Coordinator. Submitting an Online Ensemble Audition Application form provides the DAN School with permission to add a student directly to an ensemble.

It is the student’s responsibility to check SOLUS to ensure that they are registered in the correct ensemble prior to the ADD/DROP deadline for FW courses (Friday, September 18, 2020). As needed students should contact the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Kim Gudlauski, at kim.gudlauski@queensu.ca.
