What is it?

The Queen’s High School Music Festivals are one-day non-competitive festivals for high school concert bands, string ensembles, and choral groups.

Each festival includes school performance and feedback workshops, sectional clinics, and mass ensemble experiences. Students also meet current undergraduate music students and learn about post-secondary opportunities in music. The day of each festival culminates with a free public concert where each school and each mass ensemble perform.

Where is it?

The Queen’s High School Music Festivals take place at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Kingston, Ontario. While most schools attend the Festivals as a day trip, some schools do spend the night.

What music can my ensemble perform?

Schools are welcome to perform two pieces of their own choosing. We welcome all genres and types of repertoires. Choose pieces that your students want to share with others. Ensembles will perform these works at the concert and work with a faculty member on these pieces during the feedback workshop. In terms of the mass ensemble repertoire, the mass ensembles perform repertoire based on the information you provide about your ensemble when you register. To allow us to focus on polishing the music and learning choreography during the Festivals, we aim to send out the mass ensemble pieces in mid-March. This allows time for some preliminary learning of the pieces prior to the Festivals.

How much does it cost?

There is a fee of $100 per ensemble that is due upon arrival at the Festival.
