Christiaan VanZyl, a Queen’s University student in the Bachelor of Health Science program taking composition courses at the DAN School, has been named the winner of the Dundas Valley Orchestra 2024 Student Composer Competition for his orchestral work, Scenes from the Summit. In addition to receiving a $300 prize, his work will be performed in the Dundas Valley Orchestra on their May 26, 2024, concert. Christiaan is also a member of the violin section of the Queen’s Symphony Orchestra, and their conductor, Wolf Tormann, has already programmed a performance of Christiaan’s prize-winning composition on the Queen’s Symphony Orchestra’s winter 2025 concert.
