Dancing Together is the second project launched by The Accessible & Inclusive Music Theatre Project. This community-based movement program for older adults is run by Drs Colleen Renihan and Julia Brook. The pioneering initiative brings together seniors in and around Kingston through choreography and movement prompts rooted in imagination, play, and metaphor. This free program—designed to enrich older adults' lives—is organized into two case studies: one outdoors at Lake Ontario Park and one indoors at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
A unique element of the project is the involvement of our 'Social Leaders'—six local seniors who play a pivotal role in recruitment, communication, peer support, and event logistics. Their active participation reflects the Horizons for Seniors Ontario program’s dedication to peer-to-peer facilitation and community engagement.
Additionally, DAN School students participate in the program's singing and dancing, enhancing the intergenerational exchange and learning experience.
