Total Eclipse of the Arts

Event Details

Join us for a staged-reading of student-written plays in anticipation of the total solar eclipse! This exciting collaboration between Physics and Drama will showcase seven 10-minute plays, written by the students of DRAM 251 (Fall 2023) and directed and dramaturged by students of DRAM 339 (Winter 2024). From the first eclipse ever to love stories under celestial chariots, each play offers a unique cosmic perspective in the lead up to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Attend in person or via livestream for an enchanting exploration through time, space, and back again!

This is free event takes place on Monday, March 25th at 7:30 pm ET in Convocation Hall, in Theological Hall on Queen’s Campus, or via livestream (Physics @ QueensU ). This is a collaborative event between the DAN School of Drama and Music and the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy at Queen’s University.

Wait, what eclipse?

On April 8th, 2024, Kingston and a lucky few areas in southern Ontario will witness a once-in-a-lifetime event: a total solar eclipse. The 2024 eclipse will be visible from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. For the first time in almost 700 years, Kingston is in the path of totality, or where the Sun will be completely blocked out by the Moon. This means many people will be flocking to the area to view this wondrous celestial spectacle, so planning needs to start ASAP! For Kingstonians, this coming total solar eclipse will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime event: as mentioned, the last eclipse was almost 700 years ago in 1349, and the next one won't be for another 375 years in 2399!
