  • Theory and Practice: You’ll engage in scholarly discussion and debate about theatrical works and their role in society. You’ll also build creative skills in acting, design, and arts administration. You will learn how theory informs practice and practice informs theory through critical thinking and hands-on application.
  • World-Building: Journey through the creation of diverse theatrical worlds, from ancient plays to contemporary performances. Examine iconic productions, unique cultural contexts, and innovative techniques that have shaped the theatre landscape over the centuries.
  • Theatre Making:  Experience the thrill of theatre-making, from concept to stage. Start building your artistic practice with foundational classes in set and costume construction, lighting and sound production, and stage management. Develop your acting craft and gain hands-on experience in creating captivating performances. Develop practical skills and bring your artistic vision to life across various stages and styles.
  • Playwriting and Script Analysis: Sharpen your skills in writing and analyzing scripts. Understand the nuances of dramatic structure and character development and learn how to craft compelling stories that resonate with audiences.
  • Community of Supporters:  Collaborate with your peers throughout your degree and work closely with our distinguished faculty.
  • Balance and Flexibility: Our degree programs are structured to ensure that you can develop core skills in all aspects of drama while also providing flexibility to delve into your interest areas. You’ll be able to pursue your academic and creative ambitions.

Where it can lead you: Graduates of our drama program excel in many roles across the creative sector and beyond. Students continue their artistic pursuits on or behind the stage as Theatre Technicians, Designers, Directors, Stage Managers, Playwrights and Performers. Others continue into careers as educators, arts administrators, policy analysts, and in marketing and communication. Graduates have also leveraged their learning to pursue careers in fields such as law or health sciences, earn master’s and PhD degrees, or attend the National Theatre School.

Participate in one of the DAN School Major Productions, or other performance opportunities at Queen's, and explore the world of theatre creation. 

You can also choose to pursue a Concurrent Education Degree along with the Honours degree in Drama or work towards a Certificate in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity (QEIC-ENIN). The full degree structure can be found on the Academic Calendar.

 

 

FAQ

No, you don’t need to audition for our drama program. Enroll in DRAM 100 and choose a DRAM plan at the end of your first year.

You will select your Major at the end of your first year at Queen’s. You don’t need to select a Major before enrolling in your first year, so go ahead and enroll in first-year Drama courses.

No experience is necessary.
