Dr. Jamie Drake is a percussionist, drummer and composer/arranger, whose musical interests span from the environmental chamber music of John Luther Adams to Motown, and who has performed everywhere from the Lincoln Centre to a small cafe in Shanghai. He has premiered works by composers Christos Hatzis, John Luther Adams and Nicole Lizée and performed with Soundstreams, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, Esprit Orchestra, Hannaford Street Silver Band, Amici, NEXUS and many others. As a member of TorQ Percussion Quartet, he played recitals across North America and in Europe, and has been a concerto soloist with ensembles including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, Kingston Symphony and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. He also serves as percussionist for the Hamilton Children’s Choir and the Toronto Children’s Chorus. In addition, Jamie has worked as a percussion composer/consultant for CBC, and previously taught at Acadia University.  

Active in musical theatre, Jamie has performed with Mirvish, Musical Stage Company, Canadian Stage, and Talk Is Free Theatre and Young People’s Theatre for Dora Award-winning productions, and has played drums for singers from Jackie Richardson to Ron Sexsmith. In addition to performing, he has written and/or arranged music for many of the groups with whom he regularly performs, including TorQ, HCC, and MSC. His solo percussion album “Night” is available on Bandcamp.
