Jay McLellan (Sc’81, PhD’90) is a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Queen’s. He is one of the founders of, and serves as the Academic Director of the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre. Dr. McLellan is committed to building innovation and entrepreneurship programming at Queen’s and to growing a vibrant entrepreneurial culture in the Kingston region, working with many groups in the Kingston entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Jay is cross-appointed to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and to the Dan School of Drama and Music. He collaborates in teaching and research in innovation and pedagogy in the technology and creative arts fields. He has won the Frank Knox Award for Excellence in Teaching from Queen’s University, the provincial Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations Award for Excellence in Teaching, and has been nominated twice for the 3M.

Jay plays periodically (flute and piccolo) with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, and plays periodically with the Blue Swing Jazz Quartet and 20th Century Jazz Band.
