Nikkei Canadian settler Teiya Kasahara 笠原貞野 (they/them) is a queer/trans non-binary opera singer and theatre creator based in Tkarón:to (Toronto, Canada). Heralded as “a force of nature” (Toronto Star) and “an artist with extraordinary things to say” (The Globe and Mail), Teiya comes from a background of nearly 20 years of singing both opera and concert roles, recently seen in their sold-out original work, THE QUEEN IN ME, which had its world premiere at the Canadian Opera Company in June. They will be featured with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's 9th Symphony on March 5th, 2023.
