Theological Hall - Convocation HallThere is a rich and diverse range of piano music from Scotland which has been shockingly neglected for generations. Composers have taken their lead from folksong, the rich heritage of music for bagpipes (Pibroch) as well as from dance (notably strathspeys and reels). This presentation will include music by Edvard Grieg (Scottish by virtue of his great-grandfather who spelt his surname ‘Greig’) as well as works by Erik Chisholm (1904-1965) (nicknamed ‘MacBartók) his father-in-law Francis George Scott (1880-1958) (master of song) Ronald Center (1913-1973), Ronald Stevenson (1928-2015) and John McLeod (1934-2022).
Murray McLachlan has had a rich a varied career as an international performer, recording artist, writer, lecturer and teacher of standing. Based in Manchester as Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s and tutor at RNCM, he is founder/artistic director of Chetham’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists and has written three technique books (Faber Music).
