1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Are you considering furthering your studies in the arts? Are you thinking of becoming a teacher? A librarian? An arts administrator? In this session, Dr. Julia Brook will provide some insights about applying to Bachelor of Education programs across Ontario and share some of the opportunities that are available with a Bachelor of Education degree. Dr. Cory Laverty will describe what every workday looks like as a music librarian at Queen's University, and Michael Wheeler will review the laddered program offered by the DAN School that allows students to train for a Certificate in Arts Management or a Master of Arts in Arts Leadership.

Dr. Julia Brook is the Director of the DAN School of Drama and Music and an Associate Professor in Music Education. Prior to pursuing graduate work, Dr. Brook was an elementary and special education music teacher. She has taught at the Faculty of Education at Queen's University.

Dr. Cory Laverty is Queen's Art, Drama, and Music Librarian with research interests in building diverse collections, developing inclusive teaching practices, and designing impactful learning experiences. She holds a PhD in Information Science, has a background in music and teaching, and plays in several groups including the Queen's Cello Ensemble.

Michael Wheeler is Co-Coordinator of the DAN School's Graduate Arts Leadership Program and Director of Artistic Research at SpiderWebShow Performance, Canada’s first live digital performance company. He is currently a Co-Curator of FOLDA (The Festival of Live Digital Art) occurring annually in June at The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
