Some courses will have a prerequisite. Prerequisite requirements outline the prior knowledge and experience that you need, in part, to be successful in the course. The prerequisites for some courses are the completion of a successful audition.

See the list for courses on offer this year (2025-26) at the DAN School. Start with adding courses that are required for your degree, and then add your options. There will always be an updated version of this PDF on the DAN School website.
Think about your post-degree plans! If you are off to grad school, consult websites for programs you are applying to to see what their requirements are. If you are off to a B. Ed., consider courses that have an Education focus, or that offer you a well-rounded set of skills (in MUSC these may be Techniques courses, for example). If you are off to Law School or Medical School, again think about what will help you application be compelling and competitive. Don't forget ENIN (Entrepreneurship & Innovation courses)!
Not all courses are offered every year. Many of our courses, even required ones, are offered on rotation. Music Techniques courses rotate, for example, as do Theatre Design topics courses, along with most upper-level courses in DRAM and MUSC.
We are not offering 389 Music Theatre Creation Lab this year. Instead, please choose between DRAM 439AB (Advanced Theatre & Performance Creation), or MUSC381 (History and Performance of Cabaret), or MUSC475 (Finding Your Artistic Voice), or DRAM 311 (Theatre for Young Audiences), or MUSC 332 (Opera Performance). We can substitute any of these courses in for the BMT requirement of DRAM/MUSC 389.
We are not running x24, x18, x19, x22, or x23 courses this coming year. Other performance-based courses are reserved primarily for Specialization plan concentrators, and there is no additional room in them this year. We have the following performance-based courses available for you to consider:
Contemporary & Classical Piano: Piano Accompaniment MUSC X00; Keyboard Techniques MUSC 284; and MUSC 381 Cabaret (3.0 fall); MUSC x12 Improvisation Ensemble.
Contemporary & Classical Voice: MUSC 381 Cabaret (3.0 fall); MUSC 332 Opera Performance (3.0 all year); MUSC 326 Lyric Diction (3.0 all year); MUSC 475 Finding Your Artistic Voice (3.0 winter); Choral Ensemble MUSC x15 (1.5 all year); Vocal Jazz MUSC x12; MUSC x12 Improvisation Ensemble; MUSC x00 Small Ensemble.
Contemporary & Classical Winds, Strings, Brass: MUSC x00 Small Ensemble; MUSC x15 Orchestra; MUSC x15 Wind Ensemble; MUSC x12 Improvisation Ensemble; MUSC 283 Brass Techniques; MUSC 281 Woodwind Techniques.
Contemporary & Classical Guitar: MUSC 288 Guitar Techniques; MUSC 348 Advanced Guitar Techniques; MUSC x12 Improvisation Ensemble; MUSC x00 Small Ensemble.
Contemporary & Classical Percussion: MUSC 287 Percussion Techniques; MUSC x00 Small Ensemble for Percussion in each term (1.5 each term); MUSC X12 Medium Ensemble (1.5 each term) for Percussion; MUSC x12 Improvisation Ensemble; MUSC x15 Orchestra; MUSC x15 Wind Ensemble.
- Note: Our ensemble courses, MUSC x00, x12 and x15 courses all require an audition to the course for placement. This will also be the case for most other performance-based courses once the course begins. Please see our website for more information on ensemble auditions.
Auditions for small, medium, and large ensembles happen by video over the summer. Stay tuned to our ensembles page on the website for further information about auditions for 2025-26 ensemble courses.
Some of our performance-based courses require auditions once they’ve begun; information on these will be distributed after the course has begun.
Please fill out this form with your request. We would ask that you do not follow up by email unless it’s been 5 working days since your application:
What if the course I want to get permission for is not on the list of courses in the form above?
If the course isn’t listed, we likely cannot waive you into it, and we would suggest you select another course. Please see the course list on the DAN School website.
Both of the majors are auditioned separately.
Fall: Caucasian Chalk Circle (Brecht) directed by Greg Wanless.
Winter: Animal Farm (Orwell) directed by Craig Walker.
Please reach out to the director of each production for more information. We will also be posting audition information for the winter major on our social media accounts in the early fall.
Our dance classes are generally filled with our concentrators (Bachelor of Music Theatre students, and then DRAM/MUSC students). But if you would like to be placed on a wait list, please fill out this form.
Each student will receive a fob in the fall that will give them access to needed spaces. We will be in touch over email with further details.
