Queen's Orchestra

Queen’s Orchestra: MUSC 115, 215, 315, 415/1.5 units

Director - Wolf Tormann

The Queen’s Orchestra is directed by Wolf Tormann and is open to Queen’s University students who play an orchestral instrument after passing a successful audition. String players in particular are encouraged to apply.

Queen’s Orchestra will perform three concerts this year. The first concert will be on Saturday October 28, 2023, in the Brockville Arts Centre, featuring Michael Bridge and Kornel Wolak in a performance of Tangorium. This concert celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Brockville Concert Association, and it will be the first time in more than 25 years that the Queen’s Orchestra performs outside of Kingston! This concert also replaces the end of the first term concert. There will be extra rehearsals scheduled in September to allow for adequate preparation for this concert. The extra rehearsal dates are Sunday September 10th from 2pm to 5pm, Saturday September 16th from 2pm to 5pm and Wednesday October 4th from 7pm to 10pm. Because of the extra rehearsals, there will be no rehearsals in November. Students who take orchestra for credit will complete a playing test on November 3rd at 4:30pm.

The second concert of the academic year will be the Spotlight concert for Queen’s Orchestra, which will be a repeat performance of Tangorium. The concert will take place Thursday February 1, 2024 at 7:30pm in the concert hall of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. The dress rehearsal will be on January 31st from 7pm to 10pm.

The final concert will take place Saturday April 6, 2024 at 7:30pm, with a program including Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, featuring Noah Lee the concerto/aria competition winner 2023, and Dvorak's Symphony No.9.
